Saturday sees Traco Athletic make the 127 mile all-round trip via the M3, dropping further south beyond the likes of Winchester and Southampton, before a ferry will await them for the second round of Hampshire County Cup action.
Brown is set to unveil his 16-man matchday squad and there’s high aspirations to progress and to achieve some silverware for a squad that saw an injection of new and fresh blood over the summer and such improvement has showed, where Nick Brown’s side has already bettered last season’s overall winning record of six.
The meet time is 8am for selected players, departing from the Aldershot Traco Club, which now acts as the team’s ‘headquarters’, following their move from Farnham Park over the course of the summer.
Already characters have pulled off a full surprises in stepping forward to the plate and impressing boss Brown, who is full of praise and has positive words for his side: “So far we are showing very good signs. We currently sit third in the league and have back-to-back County Cup fixtures to look forward to.”
He added: “We have strengthened our squad this season to give us more competition for starting spots. We brought in 6 new players to make our 20-man squad and everyone is gelling well. The hard work that the lads put into training each week is what has carried us over the line in some games this season. I fully believe in this squad and believe we have a good chance at progressing from Division One this season. A lot more hard work will show us continue to go from strength to strength and hopefully have another good County Cup run.”
Beatrice Avenue, the home of East Cowes Victoria Athletic Reserves, is set to play host to a feast of action on Saturday and the ‘boss man’ will be insisting on returning with nothing less than a win, so the pressure will be on.
